Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with muffin liners, spray lightly with nonstick cooking spray, and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 ½ tablespoons poppy seeds, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt.
In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup mashed ripe banana,1 large egg, ¾ cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup vegetable oil, 1 tablespoon orange zest, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir together until just combined.
Add the banana mixture to the flour mixture and mix until just combined. Scoop the batter into the prepared muffin pan until each well is ¾ of the way full.
Bake for 18 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center of the muffins.
Orange Glaze
Add 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice,1 teaspoon orange zest, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to a medium bowl and whisk until smooth. Add more orange juice 1 teapoon at a time as needed until the desired consistency is reached.
Brush or drizzle the glaze over the cooled muffins. Let the glaze sit on the muffins for 20 minutes or so before serving.
